Zhang Kan, psychologist, born on May 18, 1949 in Nanjing, China. In 1976, he graduated from the Wannan Medical College. He graduated from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1982 with a Master of Science degree. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1990 with a Ph.D. in Psychology. As a researcher at the Institute of Psychology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, he was elected as a member of the Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2006. He has presided over and participated in a number of important scientific research projects, such as the development of the psychological evaluation system for recruited pilots of the Chinese Air Force, the development of the psychological selection system for the first generation of Chinese astronauts, the research on the database of Chinese important psychological characteristics, and the post-disaster psychological assistance work. He has published more than 100 papers indomestic and foreign academic journals. Actively participated in scientific research organizations and international cooperation, he served as director of the Institute of Psychology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences twice, and served as the director of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He served as the chairman of the Chinese Psychological Society from 2001 to 2009, and the vice chairman of the International Union of Psychological Sciences from 2008 to 2012. In 2006, he was elected as a Fellow of the International Society for Human Factors. In 2010, he won the Special Contribution Award of the International Association of Applied Psychology (IAAP). For his outstanding contributions in the field of engineering psychology and was awarded the first prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 2011. In 2012, he was elected as the National Outstanding Scientific andTechnological Researcher of China Association for Science and Technology.
